Tunisian president to drop charges against human rights activist
and writer
(March 14, 2002) Write a letter to the president of Tunisia asking
him to drop charges against Sihem Ben Sedrine, a Tunisian human
rights activist and editor of the web-zine Kalima,
who is currently awaiting trial on charges of defamation
and spreading false news with the aim of disturbing public
order." If convicted, Ben Sedrine can get a three-year prison
term.

Kenyan
indigenous group in danger of losing their forest home
(July 30, 2001) The Ogiek, an indigenous people living in Kenya's
Mau Forest, are fighting to remain in their ancestral home. The
government is forcing them out, allegedly to protect the environment.
But the Ogiek pose no environmental threat. A court date has been
set for October 4.
